Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de la Fundación Gas Natural Fenosa (MAC)
Call May/June 2017
1.1. Within the framework of its Cultural Promotional and Cooperation Plan, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de la Fundación Gas Natural Fenosa (MAC) invites applications to a process of selection to cover two residencies for the development of art research projects.
1.2. The idea behind this programme is: a) to foster artistic research and production; b) to contribute to the promotion of creators; and c) to promote the international mobility of artists and other cultural agents.
Each one of the two residencies will extend for a period of two months between 2 May and 29 June 2018. This period at the museum will be uninterrupted, and if the recipient wishes to take leave from the residency for a period of time, he/she must present a justified cause.
3.1. The two residencies are open to all artists (visual arts) and cultural agents (managers, curators, mediators, etc.) of any nationality, non-residents in Galicia and under the age of 45 years, who wish to develop an art research project at the MAC headquarters in the city of A Coruña (Galicia, Spain).
3.2. Applicants must be in possession of specific accredited training and/or experience in the arts or culture. Spanish applicants should also have accredited international experience.
3.3. Applicants may only present one application per person and per call. Only individual applications will be accepted.
3.4. Applications will not be accepted from previous recipients of stipends of more than one call in this programme.
3.5. The only limitations to these conditions are the legally binding laws in force.
3.6. Applicants must have a basic working knowledge of Spanish.
4. Applications and notification of concession
4.1. Applications must be presented before 14:00 (GMT+1) on 28 February 2017. Once this deadline has expired, no further applications will be accepted.
4.2. Applications must be presented using this online application form.
4.3. The result of the selection process will be notified in writing to each one of the applicants after 2 April 2018.
4.4. In the event that the details or documentation presented are incomplete, the applicant will be notified of the shortcoming and will have a period of three (3) days to rectify.
4.5. The names of the recipients awarded the residencies will be published on the MAC website and the recipients will be contacted directly by the coordinator of the programme to formalise the residency through a signed agreement.

4.7. Presenting an application implies full acceptance of these terms and conditions. Applicants are obliged to provide truthful and precise information. Non-compliance with this obligation will lead to the withdrawal of participation from the programme and MAC reserves the right to revoke the grant and the obligation, when applicable, to return any sums which the recipient may have received.
5. Selection Process and Criteria for Evaluation
5.1. These stipends shall be awarded in an open competition, in compliance with the basic principles of objectivity, transparency, equality and non-discrimination.
5.2. The recipients of the residencies shall be decided by an Evaluation Committee chaired by the Director of MAC and made up of professionals from the arts and culture associated with the museum, as well as artists who have benefited from a residency in prior calls.
5.3. The selection made by the Evaluation Committee shall be final and the Evaluation Committee reserves the right to resolve any circumstance not covered explicitly by these terms and conditions. The Evaluation Committee reserves the right, should it deem fit, not to award the residency.
5.4. The recipients of these stipends will be the applicants who receive the highest score according to the following criteria: a) originality and/or innovative quality of the art project (50%); b) compliance of the project with the resources and context in which it is to be developed (30%); and c) the résumé or experience of the applicant (20%).
6. Stipends and Justification
6.1. Recipients of the residencies shall receive four kinds of funding:
A financial payment of THREE THOUSAND EUROS (€3000) as a stipend for the duration of the residency. This payment shall be subject to tax deductions legally in force and shall be paid in two equal instalments, to be paid in each of the two months of the residency by transfer to the bank account of the recipient following previous presentation of invoice.
A maximum of FOUR HUNDRED EUROS (€400) for production expenses of his/her work, to be paid by transfer to the bank account of the recipient following the presentation of the final report and previous presentation of receipts justifying said expenses.
In addition, recipients shall receive: a) travel expenses: the Fundación shall pay the costs of round trip from the recipient’s place of origin to A Coruña, which MAC shall organise and arrange; b) a work space for the duration of the residency and; c) lunch from Monday to Friday for the duration of the residency.
6.2. Recipients to take part in the MAC art residency programme will be covered by an insurance policy for civil responsibility for the duration of the residency.
6.3. Justification for the stipend shall be delivered during the final week of the residency period by means of the presentation of a report documenting the project developed. The purpose of the report is to accredit compliance with the goal for which the stipend was awarded and with any terms and conditions agreed for the concession of the stipend. Presentation of the report is an indispensable condition for the payment of the final instalment of the stipend associated with the programme.
7. Duties of Recipients
7.1. Recipients of the residency shall agree to develop their projects within the deadlines stipulated in the working plan presented in their respective applications and to deliver a final report on their project at the end of the residency. At the same time, recipients are obliged to provide MAC with any documentation which it requires from them with regards their education and/or career which it may require to accredit any merits or circumstances detailed in the recipient’s application form.
7.2. Recipients shall agree to make proper use of the museum’s installations and to use the studios assigned to them exclusively for the purposes of art production, with the express prohibition of using them for other purposes, such as storage and accommodation, etc. MAC reserves the right, throughout the duration of the residency, either directly or by delegation, to evaluate the progress and development of the project presented.
7.3. In the event that any intervention is required in the assigned working space (painting, perforation or any other kind of modification), permission must be applied for in advance from the coordinator of the programme, and the recipient shall accept full responsibility to restore the space to its original condition once the residency is finished. At the same time, it is strictly forbidden to carry out any processes that involve the use of toxic substances and/or industrial machinery that produces noise above the permitted level or that can be considered a threat to the museum’s users or its space.
7.4. Whenever promoting or exhibiting pieces produced during these residencies, the recipients shall make express mention of the fact that they were created within the framework of the programme and shall include the following legend: “project made during the Art Residency Programme of Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de la Fundación Gas Natural Fenosa (MAC)”. At the same time, the recipients agree to add the above legend in all documentation produced throughout the duration of the residency or related to the concession of the residency.
7.5. Recipients of the residencies shall authorise the use of their names and also graphic reproduction of the work produced during the residency for any kind of promotion or publication that MAC may see fit to undertake in relation with the programme and/or its activities.
7.6. Recipients shall abide by the rules of MAC, and shall comply with its opening hours (Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 21:30; Saturday from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 21:30; Sunday from 11:00 to 14:00) and working dynamics, and shall at all times behave civically and respect the museum’s installations and common spaces. The recipient agrees to abide by any instructions for the proper use and functioning of the museum as well as the work space provided to the recipient, which he/she may receive from the director of MAC or any other person delegated by the director of MAC.
8. Other terms and conditions
8.1. Non-fulfilment of the conditions detailed herein will lead to the termination of the art residency at MAC and of the payment of the monthly stipend, and the reimbursement of sums already paid should the Evaluation Committee consider it pertinent.
8.2. MAC will assist residency holders, within its possibilities, in securing accommodation for the period of time of the residency at the museum.
8.3. MAC will contribute to the optimum development of the projects of the residency holders and shall make available all the information and resources at its disposal within the power of its personnel and within the limits of its budget.
8.4. The return of pieces produced during this residency shall be the sole responsibility of the recipient, who is required to remove them immediately following the termination of the residency.
8.5. The organisers reserve the right to make changes or take initiatives not covered by these terms and conditions, provided that these represent improvements that directly affect the success of the project. The interpretation of these terms and conditions is the exclusive purview of the members of the Evaluation Committee.
9. Treatment and Protection of Personal Details
The information FUNDACIÓN GAS NATURAL FENOSA receives from applicants in application forms for the residency stipends shall be treated with utmost confidentiality. The FUNDACIÓN guarantees the confidential treatment of the user’s personal details to which it has access. Likewise, it also guarantees that the server in which the aforementioned details shall be stored has the necessary security measures to prevent the unauthorised alteration, loss, treatment or access of these details. To this end, the FUNDACIÓN guarantees that it has taken the necessary technological and organizational safety measures in its installations, systems and databases.
In compliance with Law 15/1999 dated 13 December on the Protection of Personal Data, the personal details provided shall be incorporated into a computerised database belonging to the FUNDACIÓN. The user may exercise his/her right to access, rectify or contest details and, when applicable, to use his/her right to revoke consent for the treatment and, when applicable, cession of his/her personal details. The user may exercise these rights by writing to the FUNDACIÓN by email to: firstname.lastname@example.org or by letter addressed to FUNDACIÓN GAS NATURAL FENOSA, Plaza del Gas nº 8, 08201 Sabadell (Barcelona), including, in both cases, his/her full name, address, the reason for the communication and a photocopy of his/her national identity card or passport. The use of an identifying electronic signature shall exempt the user from the requirement to present a photocopy of National ID card or passport.
The FUNDACIÓN, in compliance with statuary law, shall store the personal details it has compiled and shall adopt the necessary means to prevent their unauthorised alteration, loss, treatment or access.
